China and Iran to Conduct Joint Naval Exercises in the Persian Gulf

All this is happening in areas of our strategic interest and India has an important role and we should not shy away from playing it.

While discussing China-Pakistan relations I had on many occasions flagged the possibility of China-Pakistan-Iran strategic cooperation and had stated that the U.S. disenchantment with Pakistan would be an important driver for this. While this trilateral has not taken shape as yet, the bilaterals between China-Pakistan, Pakistan-Iran and China-Iran need to be taken note of.

Of course, a lot will depend on how the U.S. and Iran relations pan out and what role will Russia play in Iran. Gwadar, Bandar Abbas and Chah Bahar will be in the news in the coming years. We also need to keep in mind the roads and pipelines being built in Pakistan by China. All this is happening in areas of our strategic interest and India has an important role and we should not shy away from playing it.
