Visit of Nigerian Army Resources Centre (NARC) Delegation to USI on 17 May 2019

An 8-member delegation from Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) visited USI on 17 May 2019.

An 8-member delegation from Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) visited USI on 17 May 2019. The delegation was led by Maj Gen GA Wahab (Retd), Director General, NARC.  The other members included Maj Gen IM Yusuf, a former Course Director at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Accra, Ghana. He is author of various articles on conflict and security in Africa.  The delegation also included Prof Usman A Tar, Prof of Political Science and Defence Studies at the Nigerian Defence Academy. Prof Tar is author of several books. The welcome remarks were made by Lt Gen PK Singh, PVSM, AVSM (Retd), Director, USI.

Dr Roshan Khanijo, Assistant Director (Research), USI highlighted previous visits of the NARC delegation and discussed the main cooperative mechanisms between the two countries, as mentioned in the MoU. The two sides had signed MoU on 11 Dec 2018. Brig Narender Kumar, SM VSM (Retd) updated the delegation on the joint project on “India-Nigeria Experience in Combating Terrorism” and discussed various aspects of the joint publication. This project is going to be published in the form of a book.

It was followed by discussions where “Grey Zone conflict”, role of technology as well as Nigerian and Indian experience with combatting terrorism were discussed. The Director, USI also emphasised on the need for future engagement including exchange of resources and facilities, internship/exchange of scholars. Director General, NARC appreciated the efforts of USI and stated that NARC was looking forward towards a constructive and meaningful engagement between the two countries. Lt Gen PK Singh, PVSM, AVSM (Retd) made the concluding remarks. The two sides also exchanged journals and mementos.
