A 26-member delegation led by Brig. Gen Abu Sayeed Mohammad Ali from the Armed Forces War College (AFWC), Bangladesh visited USI on 09 October 2019. A 47-member delegation from AFWC, Bangladesh had earlier visited USI on 05 Oct 2017. Welcome Remarks were made by Lt. Gen PK Singh, PVSM, AVSM (Retd), Director, USI.
Brig Narender Kumar, SM, VSM (Retd), Distinguished Fellow, USI in his presentation on the topic, “Terrorism Scenario in the South Asian Region,” discussed the typology, nature and dominant motivations behind terrorism. He emphasised the fact that terrorism is a tool of international politics and the contiguity of geography is not mandatory for spreading of terrorism. He also discussed the weaponisation of ideas and mind by the modern terrorism as new tools of terror and how technology has become an enabler for the terrorists.
The presentation was followed by a Q&A session. The delegation members asked many pertinent questions regarding India’s experience in counter terrorism; use of area specific military forces e.g. deployment of Assam Rifles in North East states specially to combat insurgency and terrorism; operational definition of terrorism, particularly in reference to Jihad. Concluding remarks were given by Lt. Gen PK Singh, PVSM, AVSM (Retd).
