A 16-member Joint Staff College Delegation from Japan visited USI on 14 Nov 2019. The delegation was led by Capt Katsuya Yamanoto. Welcome remarks were made by Lt Gen P K Singh, PVSM, AVSM (Retd), Director USI.

Maj Gen Rajiv Narayanan, AVSM, VSM (Retd), Distinguished Fellow, USI gave a presentation on “China’s Emerging Strategy in the Indo-Pacific: Implications for India – A Geostrategic Perspective”. In his presentation Maj Gen Narayanan discussed the Chinese dream to surpass the West and lead them. He highlighted the Chinese strategies under Xi Jinping through its strategies like Belt and Road Initiatives to inhibit India’s rise in IOR, replace the US as the primary power in the Indo-Pacific, create overseas strategic strong points, and increase PLA’s capabilities. He also discussed the implication of Chinese strategies on India at the geopolitical, strategic and security level. The session was followed by Q& A session in which the delegates queried India’s relations with China.  Issues were also raised on the US Japan cooperation for peace in Asia, joint operation between different branches of Indian Armed Forces. The concluding remarks were given by Lt Gen P K Singh, PVSM, AVSM (Retd).
