USI Panel Discussion “Internal Dynamics and Foreign Policy Outlook of Pakistan: Implication for Regional Security and India’s Response”

A Panel Discussion on the “Internal Dynamics and Foreign Policy Outlook of Pakistan: Implication for Regional Security and India’s Response,” was organized at the USI premises on February 18, 2015. The Introductory Remark was delivered by the Chairman Lt Gen. PK Singh PVSM, AVSM (Retd.), Director of the USI. The distinguished speakers for Session I were Lt. Gen. Syed Ata Hasnain PVSM, UISM, AVSM, SM** (Retd.) who discussed “Socio-Political Dynamics of Pakistan” and “Pakistan’s Internal Security Challenges and State Response.” The Second Speaker was Shri Mohan Guruswamy, delivered a presentation on “Pakistan’s Economic Prognosis”. The final Speaker of the Session was Lt. Gen. Vinod Bhatia PVSM, AVSM, SM (Retd) who shed light on “Pak Triggers Leading to India’s Response”.

In the Second Session Ambassador Rajeev Sikri, IFS (Retd.) spoke on “Foreign Policy Outlook of Pakistan,” which was followed by an insightful prognosis on “Pak Challenges and India’s Politico-Diplomatic Response” by Ambassador Vivek Katju, IFS (Retd.). Both the Sessions concluded with highly interactive Question and Answer discussions.

The issues brought to light during the course of the discussions covered the socio-political, military, security and economic implications of the current situation witnessed in Pakistan.
