The USI in collaboration with National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) organised a nuclear workshop on Monday 10 August 2015 from 1030 to 1330 hours. Welcome Remarks were given by Lt Gen P K Singh, PVSM, AVSM (Retd), Director USI. An overview of the project was delivered by Dr Ashley Tellis. The event was chaired by Dr Matthew Kroenig and Ambassador Alok Prasad IFS (Retd) was the Co- Chairman.
Dr Rajiv Nayan, Senior Research Associate, IDSA opened the first session on “Conceptualising a Multiple Nuclear Order”. The issues discussed were the effects of multiple order on deterrence, on arms control and on nuclear proliferation. The effect of new technologies, such as directed energy, missile defense, and cyber effect on nuclear stability were also discussed.

The second session dealt with “Applying Multipolar Nuclear Concepts in Asia”. Professor Bharat Karnad gave the opening remarks. Issues like nuclear suppliers in Asia, prospects for arms race, future of multilateral arms control, potentially destabilizing technological trends and the effects of multipolar order on nuclear posture, strategy, and targeting were discussed.

The final session reflected on the concept of ‘The Future of Stability in Asia and a way Forward’. The opening remarks for this session were given by Ambassador Arundhati Ghose IFS (Retd). Issues like nuclear terrorism and the impacts of Civilian nuclear programme on nuclear proliferation, which would impact global stability were also discussed. All the sessions were followed by stimulating discussions. Concluding Remarks were given by Ambassador Alok Prasad, Dr. Mathew Kroenig and by Lt Gen P K Singh, PVSM, AVSM (Retd), Director, USI.
