RTD on “Cyber Warfare: Its Implications for National Security”.

The introductory remarks was made by Maj Gen BK Sharma, AVSM, SM** (Retd), Dy Director (Research) CS3 and the Session was chaired by LT Gen Davinder Kumar, PVSM, VSM**(Retd). The internal Discussant was Lt Gen SP Kochhar, AVSM**, SM, VSM (Retd), the guide of the researcher.

During the presentation, Col Sanjeev Relia covered various nuances of strategic and operational cyberwar and the dangers of India becoming a victim to these. He also brought out as to how military networks and military hardware using industrial control systems are susceptible to enemy’s cyber warfare capabilities

The presentation delved upon various international efforts made till date to prevent cyberwar between nation states. Further the kind of role United Nations needs to play in cyber conflict prevention and cyber conflict resolution was also highlighted.  He concluded by recommending that India needs to create a cyber-strategy and cyber warfare doctrine, further an organisation at the national level and at the level of armed forces needs to be created  to counter the threat of a cyberwar and if required, undertake offensive cyber actions.

After the presentation in Q&A session insightful suggestions were given to further enhance the quality of the scholar’s research.
