A USI team headed by Maj Gen BK Sharma, AVSM, SM & Bar (Retd), Deputy Director(Research), USI, visited Headquarters Army training Command Shimla for a panel discussion on “Emerging Geo-Strategic Scenarios In South Asia & Indian Ocean Region, Its Implications & India’s Comprehensive Strategic Response” on the 27 August 2015. The other members of the team were Ambassador Rajiv Sikri IFS (Retd), Professor Srikanth Kondapalli and Commodore Lalit Kapur (Retd).
The key note address was given by LT Gen PM Hariz, SM, VSM, GOC-in-C ARTRAC. The opening remarks were given by Maj Gen BK Sharma AVSM, SM & Bar (Retd), Deputy Director (Research), USI. The sessions was chaired by Ambassador Rajiv Sikri

The first session dealt with the Indian Ocean Region. Cmde Lalit Kapur (Retd) gave a presentation on “Strategic Environment in the Indian Ocean Region, Challenges and Prospects” This was followed by a session on Pakistan where Ambassador Rajiv Sikri spoke on “Emerging security situation in Pakistan and India’s Option”.

In the post tea session Maj Gen BK Sharma AVSM, SM & Bar (Retd) spoke on “Evolving Situation in Afghanistan and India’s Response Option”. The final Session dealt with China, and Professor Srikanth Kondapalli gave his presentation on “Growing Chinese Influence in India’s Neighbourhood and Implications for India”.
