For the past few days, people have been waking up seeing and hearing the news of Masood Azhar being included in the list of international terrorists by the United Nations. Detailed discussions and deliberations have been conducted by various newspapers and online articles on the same. He was the founder leader of Pakistan backed terrorist organization, Jaish-e-Mohammed. Masood was part of various killings and even an aircraft hijacking which adds color to his report card. Blames and accusations on him are still continuing. The main point that should be reflected upon is that Masood was heading a government-run school which is at best surprising to many.
Sayeed Salahudeen (Yusuf Shah) is another important member listed under the most wanted criminals by the National Intelligence Agency. He aspired to become a medical person, later joined the Indian police force. He was also interested in literature, read and write various poems and works. He is also a post graduate in Political Science. Even then, later he got influenced by the ideologies of Jamaat-e-Islami and joined the same. Another person being Osama Bin Laden, founder of Al-Qaeda also had an enriched educational life. Abdur Rehman Hashim Syed was a Pakistani major who was added to the NIA list after seeing his involvement with terrorist groups. Saddam Hussein was a drop out from an Iraqi law school but had three years of abundant study on the law.
The main point that should be given urgent attention after going through the lives of above mentioned “leaders” is of value and application of education. All of them are highly educated and could have helped nations to bring about a revolution which might have given the world a new face. But these highly intellectual brains were influenced by various ideologies and ideals which made them few among the worst personalities that the world has seen. What is being provided to many of us in the name of education? The ideology behind education has witnessed a huge change. The present system has foiled the young minds to develop the culture of thinking. Marks percentage and crediting system ate up half of the cherishing time of young ones. For example, when the CBSE result of twelfth class was announced, more than 18 students committed suicide in Telangana. This shows the pressure that is applied to each brain and when they try to get out of the same, they become hatred of the society which threw arrows on them. Education must be made a platform for students to develop their own ideas and corrections should be made at a younger age if his/her idea hurts other fellow beings.
