USI conducted third internship programme for Christ University, Bengaluru from 19 April – 18 May 2018 at USI. The two institutions have signed a MoU on October 20, 2016 to promote joint research and education programme on national security.
A group of 17 students from both undergraduate and post graduate courses participated in the one month internship programme. The programme was designed to acquaint participants with contemporary national / international strategic affairs, national security issues, and research methodology.
The students attended a capsule comprising of lectures on topics like India’s internal security, South Asia, West Asia, Cyber, Nuclear and Maritime security delivered by eminent scholars. In this programme, they also participated in Seminars, Round Table Discussions. They were encouraged to write for USI website/Blog. They also participated in a syndicate discussion on Jammu & Kashmir, where the students were divided into four groups, each group discussing a major issue related to J&K. The best syndicate was given a prize. The internship ended with the paper presented by students in front of a panel of experts. The panel gave valuable inputs, which enriched their papers.
Significantly, the best few papers would be a part of an upcoming book to be published jointly by USI-Christ University. In 2017, USI in collaboration with Christ University had published a book titled “India and its Emerging Foreign Policy Challenges,” in which 12 articles were selected from the research papers submitted by the students.
The internship programme concluded on 18 May 2018, with the presentation of certificates and closing remarks by Maj Gen BK Sharma, AVSM, SM** (Retd), Dy Director (Research), USI.
