A round table discussion was organised with Cdr Greg Malandrino, Office of Net Assessment, Pentagon on the topic “Security Concerns in the Indo-Pacific Region” on 01 Oct 2019. Cdr Greg Malandrino accompanied by the Assistant Naval Attaché at the US Embassy in New Delhi visited the USI to discuss the scope of cooperation on NA between the two sides. The welcome remarks were made by Maj Gen BK Sharma, AVSM, SM** (Retd), Dy Director (Research) & head, Centre of Strategic Studies and Simulation (CS3).

Cdr Greg Malandrino gave an overview of Net Assessment conducted in the US. The two sides also discussed the current military capabilities and national security and defence strategies and actions of the US in regard to China in the Indo Pacific and India’s role as a critical player in the region. Maj Gen BK Sharma, AVSM, SM** (Retd) highlighted various Net Assessment projects undertaken by the USI for the policy-makers and institutions like NSCS, MoD, HQIDS. The ONA analysts were highly impressed with the sophisticated understanding of NA, scenario building and strategic gaming attained by the Centre of Strategic Studies and Simulation (CS3), USI. They evinced significant interest in undertaking joint NA work in the Strategic Balance in the Indo- Pacific and scenarios related to Escalation Domination Control over flash points involving China. The closing remarks were made by Maj Gen BK Sharma, AVSM, SM** (Retd).
