Maj Gen BK Sharma, AVSM, SM** (Retd), Director, USI participated in a panel discussion on Uzbekistan election at ICWA on 06 February 2020. He shared his views and observations as an elections observer in the Bukhara region of Uzbekistan on 22 December 2019. During the discussion he expanded on the issue of “New Election New Uzbekistan,” the slogan for the parliamentary elections after President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev came into office in December 2016 and launched large-scale political reforms. He also discussed Uzbekistan’s New Development Strategy since 2017, under the President Mirziyoyev, which is about transparency in the society, accountability of administration, ensuring rule of law, strengthening democratic principles, protecting rights, freedoms of citizens and improving relations with neighbours.
