As ISIS Surrounds Baghdad, Iraq Pleads for Return of US Forces

It is reported that ISIS has come within a few miles of the Iraqi capital and has advanced as far as Abu Ghraib (a suburb of Baghdad known for its infamous prison under Saddam and during the US occupation).

Out of sheer desperation, the Iraqi government is now asking the US military to send ground troops back to the embattled country.

A senior Iraqi official recently claimed that as many as 10,000 ISIS fighters are now poised to assault the capital. We welcome your comments on this important development. With President Obama announcing the infusion of 1,500 more US troops to Iraq to fight the Islamic State militants, it appears the beginning for a “new phase” in the US re-engagement in a new Iraq war. The time has come for the Obama administration to come clean with the American public and the world over his long term plans, as the piecemeal and knee-jerk actions will only complicate matters in the longer term.
