Jabhat Al-Nusra, Al-Qaeda’s arm in Syria, is reportedly now joining up with the estranged ISIS. Western intelligence confirms that Al-Nusra militants and ISIS are now holding war planning meetings. While no deal has yet been formalised, the addition of at least some al-Nusra numbers to Isis would strengthen the group’s ranks and extend its reach at a time when air strikes are crippling its funding sources and slowing its advances in both Syria and Iraq.
Meanwhile, leader of the Nusrah Front Abu Mohamad al-Golani has denounced the US-led air strike campaign and urged Westerners everywhere to do the same “by standing against the decisions of your rulers,” otherwise bloodshed would be brought to their soil.
He also urged all Middle Eastern groups who had suffered at the hands of the IS to not use the opportunity to strike back at them, and instead unite to fight the West.
“[ISIS injustice] should not push any of you to be driven behind the West and take part in the alliance which they want to use to end jihad,” he said.
