A joint United Service Institution of India (USI) – Sichuan University, China Seminar was conducted at USI on 27-28 August 2019

A joint United Service Institution of India (USI) – Sichuan University, China seminar was conducted at USI on 27-28 August 2019.  The seminar was organised as a part of the joint project “Building Strategic Trust Between India & China” between the two institutions. The project will culminate into a book form. The participating authors/scholars writing various sections of the book presented their perspective at the seminar. Some of the contributing authors were not able to attend the seminar, their respective perspective were presented by selected members from the teams.

The welcome remarks were made by Lt Gen PK Singh, PVSM, AVSM (Retd), Director USI, which was follow by opening remarks by Prof (Mrs) Qiu Yonghui, Director, Centre for South Asia Studies, Sichuan University. The two day seminar was divided into two sessions on each day. Two topics were discussed in the first session, and subsequently three topics were discussed in the second session. The following topics were discussed during the seminar:-

  3. Tibet Dilemma
  4. Water Issue
  5. Enhancing Economic Cooperation
  6. Pakistan factor in Sino-Indian Relations
  7. US Factor in Sino-Indian Relations
  8. Strategic Competition & Cooperation in South Asia
  9. Indian Ocean: Challenges and Prospects for Transformation as a Zone of Peace and Prosperity
  10. China-India Cooperation for Global Governance

The entire discussions were based on Chatham House rules that led to a very healthy and frank exchange of views. These covered each paper based on contemporary geo-political and geo-strategic realities.  Closing Remarks were given by Lt Gen PK Singh, PVSM, AVSM (Retd) and Prof (Mrs) Qiu Yonghui. The two sides expressed hope for similar collaborations in future covering other strategically important issues.
